Program Overview
Practical Nursing Program
The CTCLC Practical Nursing Program:
- Established in 1967 under the Manpower Development Training Act and was approved by the Veterans Administration in 1968.
- Prepares students to perform select nursing duties in care of the sick, promotion of health, and prevention of illness under the supervision of a licensed physician and of a registered nurse.
- Sponsored by the Career Technology Center of Lackawanna County (CTCLC).
- Approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing
- Accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
- Prepares and provides eligibility for graduates to take the Pennsylvania State Board licensing examination for Practical Nursing.

- Students may be eligible for Financial Aid through PELL and SEOG grants, federal loans, scholarships and/or Veterans benefits.
Admission Requirements
The course is open to any interested person who:
- Must be a resident of Pennsylvania
- High school graduate with a diploma and official high school transcript(s) from an accredited school.
- Pennsylvania G.E.D
- Out of state G.E.D results and foreign language transcripts must be approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education at the applicant's expense.
- Potential students may contact World Education Services (Credential Verification) http://www.wes.org/
- Potential students with English as a second language may be required to take the TOEFL examination
- Demonstrates ability to learn as indicated by a pre-admission test, two positive references and official transcripts
- Satisfactory results of the information session
- Admission Committee review and recommendation for acceptance
In addition, once accepted, participation in the program is contingent on the receipt of the following:
- Act 34 Child Abuse Clearance
- Act 151 State Police Clearance
- FBI clearances
- Free from prohibitive offenses and are accepted by the governing institution and clinical sites.
- Proof of physical and mental health as evidenced by:
- Physical examination
- Physician verification of ability to perform essential functions of Practical Nurse
- Completed immunizations and/or titers
- Negative 10 panel drug screening
- Physical examination

Program of Study
The CTCLC Practical Nursing Program is a 52-week course of study extended over 15 months. Students attend a 5-day week (Monday-Friday) schedule. CTCLC Practical Nursing is PA State Board Approved, offering 1500 hours of clinical and classroom experience combined.
Students are guided under the supervision and guidance of the Career Technology Center Practical Nursing Program and its instructors, attending supervised clinical experiences at:

- Aveanna Home Health
- Elan Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation
- Geisinger Community Medical Center
- Lehigh Valley Health Network

- St. Joseph’s Center
- The Wright Center
- Wayne Memorial Hospital
Applications
New Classes are admitted in March and November/December of even years and August of odd years.
100% of graduates surveyed a year after graduation were employed in acute and chronic health care institutions and agencies, clinics, physician's offices, industry, prisons, Urgent Care facilities, and home health agencies.
